Movie Review: Visionary Movie about One of the Most Visionary Personalities- Steve Jobs
**Spoiler Alert!**
"I hope it's got a sequel!", that was my first reaction when the movie was done. Why? Because the movie is not a biography. No, it's anything but a biography of one of the great visionaries of all time. With all it's positives, the movie stands incomplete in portraying The Steve Jobs. When a movie about Steve Jobs doesn't cover the story of most innovative product of the decade, IPad, you know the movie is incomplete. Visionary, really visionary. But incomplete. Sad part is that the movie Jobs, which came out in 2013 with Ashton Kutcher playing Steve also felt the same, incomplete.
Steve Jobs portrays the person Steve Jobs is by telling behind the curtains story during three pivotal launches, The Macintosh, Next Computer and IMac. During these three stages of his life, Steve has to deal with his personal issues with his ex-girlfriend, daughter, Steve Wozniak and John Sculley. His journey of evolution as a person is perfectly captured with some fantastic performances by Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet and Jeff Daniels. Kate Winslet plays Joann Hoffman, personal assistant of Steve Jobs and she does it perfectly! Michael Fassbender composes himself with confidence and obsession of Steve Jobs which lacked in Ashton Kutcher's Steve Jobs. With great Cinematography, Script and Music, Steve Jobs is worth watching.
Though the ideology of the movie sounds perfect, that's not what people want to know about The Steve Jobs. In a scene, as a reply to Steve Wozniak's question as to what does he exactly do, Steve Jobs replies "Musicians play their instruments. I play the Orchestra". That is the Steve Jobs we all want to see! The story of Most Innovative product of the Decade, the IPad, is what we want to know. This iteration is perfect. No doubt in that! But, it's more like you offer a hungry vegetarian with chicken! The movie perfectly puts up the aggression and obsession Steve always had in him but doesn't end that way. You'll watch it, you'll love it and you'll admire the work. But at the end, you'll feel that the movie didn't do justice for the source material.
Highlights:
- Cinematography
- Lead Performances
- Script
- Music
Drawbacks:
- Incomplete take on the source material
- Shift in Focus
Where does Steve Jobs go wrong?
It tries so much to feel like a fairy tale. An intolerable jerk finding his way through his personal issues? That's not it's all about Steve Jobs! No!!! The movie starts off at a different path and ends in a different path. Not Steve Jobs story we all were waiting for!
Verdict: Visionary movie with incomplete take on Source material. Worth watching.
P.S: I sure hope there's a sequel because a reboot, again, would be so stupid.
