Movie Review: Get Thrilled, Be Terrified, Goosebumps, Repeat!- Don't Breathe
***Spoiler Alert!***
You better take the title seriously because if you won't, chance is that you'll be in real trouble! It's been real long for a movie with quality Thriller/Horror content to shaken up the movie industry. Fede Alvarez, director of latest Evil Dead took the challenge to put an end to our wait. The cat and mouse chase, though an usual concept, gets executed wonderfully. For a movie with most part being in just one house and only four characters, this thriller keeps us at the edge of the seat all way long! Sam Raimi is yet again involved as the producer and I see that this guy is not gonna let any quality horror film pass without having his involvement!Money (Daniel Zovatto), Rocky (Jane Levy) and Alex (Dylan Minnette) are three thieves who break into houses of their victims and rob them. Money finds out about a blind man (Stephen Lang), a veteran, who's got lot of cash stacked in his place. Being an easy target, all the three of them proceed according to their plan. Things go horribly wrong as they make a shocking discovery about the blind man and that he's not so helpless after all!
I've loved Stephen Lang from Avatar and this time again, he rocks the screen as an army person, well, an ex army person. Another important performance comes from Jane Levy, who portrays various emotions seamlessly. We do not get much of Money and care even lesser about his character. Alex puts one hell of a fight, yet, having no background to his character other than him wanting to be with Rocky doesn't have us rooting for him either. However, various instances with Rocky and Alex being at the edge of getting out of the house and failing makes us scream "cut them some slack, OK!". The color textures used are fabulous. They give us the grim and shady effect to the film resulting in holding the audience in the tempo. Scenes in the dark are shot perfect. Cinematography should get a lot of credit to both color textures and those shots. Music is just perfect. The movie goes on being a perfect one until climax. The climax ruins the otherwise fantastic movie.
As the movie overstays their welcome in the final scenes as script goes from being great to plain stupid revealing a lot of plot-holes. For an intelligent movie, that definitely is a blow. Yet, this is a movie that's gonna get into your nerves and creep the hell out of you. Don't blame me if you have nightmares!
