Movie Review: A Fairly Necessary Tale with it's Flaws- Neerja
**Spoiler Alert**
"Zindagi Badi Honi Chahiye... Lambi Nahi"
A movie based on the story of ultimate bravery shown by a 22 year old flight attendant and model to save passengers from hijackers of her plane, PAN AM 73 and lost her life doing so, Neerja, is a good film with great source material and flawed narration. Most of the movie is set inside the flight PAN AM 73 and it revolves around the fear and loathing of passengers towards the hijackers. With Sonam Kapoor showing that she too can act (at least better than her previous films!) and Shabana Azmi stealing the show along with one of the hijackers, I must say the film had lot of potential than that of utilised. Also, fictionalization of the story didn't do any good to the movie. sticking to the source material and respecting it would've done miracles for the movie.
The best part of the move is it's script. With dialogues like "Main marne se pehle marna nahi chahta" (I don't want to die before dying) and "Zindagi badi honi chahiye... Lambi nahi" (Life should be big... but not long) pushing you into thinking and instantly connecting to the emotions of Neerja, you will stay immersed in the movie. The first half of the movie is made with utmost interest and focus that the first half gives an idea of a classic in the making. However, the movie lags in the second half and also loses continuity. With too many scenes just being inserted in the movie to make you sentimental, the movie loses it's flow and tempo in the second half. Also, the climax feels a little rushed and apparently is not what exactly happened. The backdrop is perfectly set. Maniacal hijacker put in a great performance.
Highlights:
- Shabana Azmi and Maniacal Hijacker performance.
- Script
- First Half
- Second Half and Climax
- Too much fictionalization.
P.S: Please note that this is review of the movie 'Neerja' and not the person 'Neerja Bhanot'. Great respect to what she did and that's beyond comparision.
