Movie Review: Arguably the best Sci-Fi movie of the decade- Ex Machina

**Spoilers Ahead!**
Once in a while there comes a movie which needs not to be watched, but felt. From an evergreen genre, Sci-Fi, this movie stands atop its kind in the recent time. Tense and thought provoking, Alex Garland's directorial debut sweeps your feet off and keeps you guessing. Might also make you scratch your head for a while by the end of it. Yes, this movie will be talked about for years.
Ex Machina is a story of three people an AI humanoid, Ava(I'm gonna go the distance and consider Ava a person because, after all, its the perfect AI!) which is locked down in a room by it's creator, Nathan and a young programmer, Caleb who comes down to evaluate Ava's AI capabilities by testing it's human qualities. The twisted creator, Nathan has different motives and a darker side to the whole characterization. Oscar Isaac plays his part perfect just like Domhnall Gleeson, a programmer with smarts and heart. Who stands out here is not these two actors but the third and soon to-be superstar, Alicia Vikander. She is just flawless as Ava and shows human emotions perfectly as a humanoid. She's a star in the making.

The impeccable movie with a witty but simple plot with good amount of twists and turns has the best visuals. Ava is one of the best ever creations with perfect blend of CGI and characterization. For a twisted Sci-Fi movie, getting the perfect music is the real vital challenge. Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury gives you perfect treat on that. While the movie is taken totally in a tensed backdrop, Oscar Isaac succeeds to get some giggles from the audience. The idea of the whole movie being fit in a story that happens in a week gives boost to the movie. At one moment or the other, you find yourself feeling empathy for all the three main characters in the movie. And that's when the movie is succeeded. Oh! this one does a lot more than succeeding. This one just blows your mind away!

Highlights:
  • Alicia Vikander and other lead performances
  • Music
  • Script
  • Plot twists
Deep Study: **Major Spoilers**
There is a dance number where Oscar Isaac (Nathan) asks Domhnall Gleeson (Caleb) to relax and join him in dance. After he refuses, Oscar himself joins for a dance number with Kyoko, played by Sonoya Mizuno. Since then, there is no indication that says Kyoko is a human or an AI. But, the dance number is so in sync which gives away a major plot point that Kyoko might also be Nathan's creation and that Nathan has put only that dance number and movements in Kyoko's mind as he's aware of the movements and timing exactly. Also, it shows Nathan's darker side that he's made Kyoko not to understand English and keeps her locked in so that she doesn't develop any capabilities. It's pretty evident that Nathan made Kyoko to fulfill his physical and sexual needs. Like a maid and sexual object.
Verdict: Impeccable piece of art!
