Movie Review: Aims for the Stars, Lands Somewhere in the Sky!- Avengers: Infinity War
***Spoiler Alert!***
24 Superheroes. 18 movies building the characters. 10 Years of World Building. 6 Infinity Stones. One big bad baldy. When such a well sought out movie ends up somewhere between good and great, that's a disappointment. After the perfect Superhero movie, Black Panther, Marvel was waiting to deliver another perfect movie. Or so they thought. Thanos was teased first in the first Thor movie. Every superhero fan and a movie fan have been waiting for him get his ass out of the chair he so loves to sit in and wreck the world since then. And he does. Surprisingly, for a Marvel movie, the villain becomes the strength here as the heroes become the weaknesses. Inconsistencies in the characters and the script become the weaknesses.
The movie picks up exactly where Thor: Ragnarok leaves us. We see Ebony Maw walking on the wrecked Asgardian rescue ship, killing the survivors. Thanos stands tall as Thor is fallen and Loki is trying to work his charm and mischief. Hulk tries to save the day smashing Thanos, but in contrary, gets smashed. At it is established well without any delay that Thanos is not kidding and is hell bent on getting all the Infinity Stones. The Black Order (Proxima Midnight, Ebony Maw, Corvus Glaive and Black Dwarf) are sent to Earth to get the two Infinity Stones (Mind Stone and Time Stone) that lie on Earth while Thanos is off for the Soul Stone and the Power Stone. Our favorite heroes (not you, Star Lord) unite to stop Thanos from committing a genocide by trying to keep him from getting all the Infinity Stones.
The biggest disappointment with Infinity War was the characters being butchered. No, not the physical butchery but the ideals of the character butchery. The genius Tony Stark doesn't device a plan to face the biggest threat he ever faced. The another genius Dr. Strange never uses his biggest weapon, the Time Stone. The outlaw who risked his life to save one planet, killed his father to save another and shot his love trying to save one again, let's his emotions get him at the most vulnerable moment nullifying anything he ever stood for. The big green giant is shit scared for getting his ass handled, once. The whole mushy-mushy romance between Vision and Scarlet Witch was cringe-worthy. And what was it with the two of the most powerful beings in the MCU not being able to stop two henchmen who then gets crushed by three mortals? We'll never know. A mere mortal blocking Thanos' blow with 5 Infinity stones in the gauntlet is way too much, even for Marvel. Inconsistencies in power, dumbed-down characters, useless characters and inconsistencies in pace are the major problems with Infinity War. When characters with sky-high IQs take dumb decisions, they become dumb.
Though, all is not lost for Infinity War. Thanos is perfect. We see a purpose, a logical one at that in his quest. Spider-man is a treat. Wakanda is a blessing to MCU. The whole of Wakanda sequence is amazing. Cap gets a goosebumps inducing entry. The whole Avengers-meet-Guardians sequence was handled perfectly. Iron Man hurting Thanos was beauty. RDJ is at the top of his game. The Alien reference was pure fan service. But when epic sequences together doesn't result in an epic movie, disappointment ensues.

All our heroes not seeing Time Stone as the most powerful asset and liability at the same time was unbelievable. When each of them knew what Thanos was behind and the powers of the stones, the team still resorting to destroy the Mind Stone so Thanos wouldn't complete his quest was stupid. I mean, the audience saw it from miles that all Thanos had to do was some weird hand movements and mind stone would be back but the heroes with so much knowledge didn't see it? Even Vision? That guy has access to everything on the internet and he couldn't figure this simple logic? Screw it!
Verdict: Yeah, few great scenes, a lot bad ones. Yet, quite an experience.
