Movie Review: An Entertaining Fun Blast with It's Own Drawbacks!- Suicide Squad!

***Spoiler Alert!***
DC's third installment in their Cinematic Universe with all Ensemble cast did get a  lot of attention. The Trailers were beautiful, filled with exotic characters and fantastic music. With David Ayer, 'Fury' fame taking the megaphone, it had promise written all over. Though the product delivers, it's far from what it promised.

Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) is a mean-lady who wants to use her prisoners with exceptional abilities for better good by getting into an agreement with them that is more beneficial to her interests. (It's like an employer exploiting his employee. Sucks!) She puts in a team of Meta-humans, Gang-bangers, Witches and Crazy people (read as one crazy woman) to fight a mysterious entity from other dimension. However, these baddies have their own intentions and motivations once out of their cage. With an unpleasant team-up turning into an unusual friendship, these bad people actually do some good and that forms the rest of the movie.

The movie is fun. The characters are fun. The biggest let down of the movie would be the plot. Taking over the world by destroying it is the most used plot-line ever in the world. C'mon! you've got some pretty sick anti-heroes and some amazing action sequences and you use that plot! WHYYYY!! The introduction of the characters just in the comic book style with letters on the screen was pretty fun. The tone is humorous when necessary and is not overdone. The characters and their depiction really works out. Margot Robbie nails the part of Harley Quinn. Will Smith gives just adequate performance in the role of Deadshot. Jai Courtney does an excellent job as Captain Boomerang. Jay Hernandez's El Diablo is the most emotional character in the movie and he does a wonderful job. Viola Davis as Amanda Waller is probably the best choice. Jared Leto, usually a wonderful actor gets lost in portraying The Joker. Though he hits the mark few times, he misses them most of the times. The Joker doesn't have much screen time in Suicide Squad and I think we'll need to see more of him to decide if he can actually be a good Joker. Cara doesn't really have much scope to perform and that might actually be for the good.

Highlights:

  • Lead Performances
  • Music
  • Action Sequences
Drawbacks:
  • Plot
  • Uneven Pace
  • Cheesy Climax
Though the movie focuses at making audience emote for super-villains and gets hit at that mark, the movie should've actually explored them doing good in a bad way. when it comes to climax, we feel like this is a team-up of ordinary people with exceptional skills but not a team-up of super-villains. The movie has it's moments and they're greatly done. And, it also lags at few places.
What does Suicide Squad do the Best?
Two names. Margot Robbie. Will Smith.
What does Suicide Squad do the Worst?
The same complaint I had with X-Men Apocalypse. Plot. That's a repeatedly overcooked plot! Come out fresh!

Verdict: Good but not great anti-hero movie.

P.S: Those glorious Bruce Wayne/Batman cameos! Wooooooo!
P.P.S: Just a random thought. What if Jared Leto was offered to play Lex Luthor and Jesse Eisenberg to play The Joker? Just a thought!
