Movie Review: Fun, Action and Visuals That are Far from Beyond!- Star Trek Beyond

***Spoiler Alert!***
Though Star Trek can never reach the level of awesomeness of Star Wars (Come on! lets face it!). Nonetheless, it is one of the longest running successful Sci-Fi franchises ever. With beneficial two installments, Star Trek Beyond had lot of expectations on. Bringing in Justin Lin from Fast & Furious Series added fuel to the fire. J J Abrams, who had directed the first two films heading the production department for this movie just made a stronger team. The third journey on Enterprise is fun, given it's flaws.

Just as the curtains are lifted, we see Capt. Kirk (Chris Pine) trying to negotiate with a group of aliens to sign a truce with a different alien planet as that's what an usual day looks at Federation. He tries to get this done by offering them a long lost artifact which presumably belongs to them. After a failed attempt at  truce, Kirk saves the artifact in Enterprise. Later, Enterprise and it's crew are lured into an ambush lead by Krall (Idris Elba) which results in total annihilation on Enterprise. The crew are taken prisoners by Krall with Capt. Kirk and Chekov (Late. Anton Yelchin) as a group and Spock (Zachary Quinto) and McCoy (Karl Urban) as a group being stranded on a strage planet. Rest of the movie forms how will the captain rescue his crew with the small team stranded and why did the extra terrestrials lure Enterprise to attack on it.

"Guys! we need to make a new Star Trek movie and the plot would be same as multiple movies, an ex captain of a ship who feels that Federation doesn't care about him or his crew. That is not new but who cares!" seems to be the discussion they had before kicking off this movie into production. If I had only one thing to complain on, it'd be plot of this movie. Seriously, I'm bored of the same plot over and over in tens of movies. Please make something new. Despite an old plot, the movie is quite fun. Good script, wonderful visuals and a simple solution for a seemingly impossible problem, though cheesy, kinda works. The motive of villain being explained only in the climax of the movie is one weakness. This is easily the weakest movie of the new reboot series.

Highlights:

  • Visuals
  • Script
Drawbacks:
  • Plot
  • Inconsistent Screenplay
  • Climax
Though I'm waiting for the next installment, such weak attempt at the next movie would surely kill the franchise. If there's another movie coming, they better take special care and put in extra efforts or it might be a call for another reboot. And I'm not interested in that.

Verdict: Nothing beyond, yet fun!

P.S.: RIP Anton Yelchin
